New NJ Transit Bus route going through Springfield

Effective Monday, March 3, the NJ Department of Transportation will sponsor a new bus route to help mitigate roadway congestion and delays due to the Pulaski Skyway Construction Project.

NJ TRANSIT will begin service on the No. 95 Line, operating weekdays ONLY between Watchung and Newark Penn Station (NPS-Market Street Lanes).

The NJ TRANSIT No. 95 Line service:
•Will operate inbound trips ONLY during AM service

Keeping Kids Safe Project Returns to Autoland

The Keeping Kids Safe Project will be hosting a free child safety fair in Springfield on April 18th. The child safety organization will take a child’s fingerprints and send them home directly with parents. Parents can use the record to turn directly over to authorities anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. There will also be community organizations present to provide safety information and entertainment for families.

LIBRARY AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY CELEBRATE 220TH ANNIVERSARY OF SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP

The 220th anniversary of the Township of Springfield is April 14, 2014. On that date, the very first Township Committee meeting was held (Springfield had petitioned the State Legislature in 1793 to be recognized as independent of the Township of Elizabethtown). There will be a month long celebration of this anniversary, kicking off with a concert of colonial music by the musical duo, The Tuckers at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 6.

Hadassah Meeting February 27th

An open meeting of Springfield Hadassah is scheduled for Thursday,
February 27, 12:30 pm at the Springfield Public Library. Springfield
Township Committeewoman Margaret Bandrowski will speak on
correspondence by local Civil War soldiers from Dover and Springfield,
reflecting different perspectives. A mini lunch will be served and
non Hadassah members are urged to contact [email protected]
for reservations. The meeting is free of charge.-

JCP&L to conduct Spring Aeriel Inspections over Springfield

Please be advised that JCP&L will be performing Spring Routine Aerial Inspections on their transmission lines beginning on Monday, March 3rd through the end of the month depending of course on weather conditions, as well as other scheduling needs. The helicopter will be flying slowly (20-30 mph) along the lines, and may hover at any time for a closer inspection. The helicopter scheduled for these patrols is a light blue with dark blue tail, MD 500 , w/ registration (tail) number N721RP. Please see attached photo for details.

Training for Peer Mentors Volunteers to Help in Special Needs Programs - Now Registering in Springfield

The Springfield Recreation Department will be hosting a training class for students (ages 12+) interested in becoming a volunteer peer mentor for youth with special needs at recreation classes and events. Attendees will learn more about youth with certain developmental and physical needs and how to work with and help these youth participate in recreation programs. After the training, volunteers will be able to mentor in any of our special needs programs to be offered in in Springfield in the near future.
