Celebrate Black History Month with Local Author Sheila D. Hairston on February 22

Thanks to our sponsors

In honor of Black History Month, the Springfield Free Public Library is pleased to offer an appearance by local author Sheila D. Hairston at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 22.  Ms. Hairston is the author of E'KALB HOLLOW, a novel about the Braxtons, a family of eight who lived in the poor but close-knit community of E'kalb Hollow during the height of the Jim Crow era.  Although the book is a work of fiction, it is based on the author's own family and actual events.  Fictitious names have been created and incidents and scenes have been modified to capture the author's imagination.

In addition to providing a short reading from the book, Ms. Hairston will discuss her inspiration for writing this novel, her writing process and also the process of going from finished manuscript to getting her work published.   Copies of E'KALB HOLLOW will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the event, with the author available to sign copies for those who want their book purchase personalized.

This program is free and open to all members of the general public.
The Springfield Free Public Library is located at 66 Mountain Avenue, with the main entrance to the library located on Hanna Street, across from the municipal parking lot.
