Springfield Post 228 Seeks Nominations for American Legion Jersey Boys State

The American Legion Jersey Boys State (ALJBS) is a nationally renowned program. Most colleges consider this an important addition to a student’s resume. Each year, two Jersey Boys State statesmen will be elected by their Jersey Boys State peers to attend The American Legion Boys Nation held in Washington D.C. in July.

 

This year, the American Legion Continental Post 228 of Springfield plans to select 2-3 young men from Springfield who are currently in their Junior class to attend the American Legion Jersey Boys State that will be held at Rider University from 16 to 21 June, 2024.

 

Each year since 1946, over 900 young men from New Jersey public high schools and private academies are given the opportunity to attend ALJBS.

 

Post 228 qualifications for consideration to attend.

 

1. The candidate must a young man and a resident of Springfield, New Jersey.

2. Current high school junior year (rising senior).

3. Possesses outstanding qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service to their schools and community.

4. Has an interest in government and its processes.

5. Have a good academic standing.

6. Will be no older than 18 when attending ALJBS.

7. Be willing to abide by the rules and traditions of Boys State and is available to attend

during the dates of the ALJBS session.

 

High school juniors from Springfield currently attending Jonathan Dayton High School, Union County VoTech, Union Catholic High School and Seton Hall Prep should contract their school counselor regarding consideration for nomination.

Requests must be received by February 2, 2024.

 

ALJBS is a non-partisan political program. Issues are examined by the delegates without regard to the views of the existing political party system. This enables the young men to offer their own solutions free from political contamination and then to understand some of the political problems they will encounter in the adult world.
